Strategic Sourcing/Category Management is an approach that best-in-class organizations leverage to buy more effectively reduced unit costs. Category management consists of understanding the business drivers (both internal and external) of key supply sets and to most effectively manage those relationships in the context of the broader marketplace. Mature category management tools address both transactional supplier performance as well as help to leverage strategic supplier relationships.
